Throughout our lives there are sure to be ups and downs. It has been said that the tough times, make you appreciate the good times. It is not easy nor fun to practice this process during the moments of hardship, but there is a lot to be said about the power of positive thinking.

Focusing on the solution instead the problem leads to a much more successful decision making process. It is inevitable that from time to time, bad things happen. Occasionally those bad things happen to your home.

When faced with an at home disaster, here are a few tips to make the recovery process as smooth as possible.

Plan Ahead

Just like with most things in life, being proactive is better than being reactive. Having an emergency reaction plan can not only save your property, but it can possibly save the lives of you and your loved ones. See my EMERGENCY REACTION PLAN blog HERE for more details.

Making sure your property is properly insured is an absolute must. If you are underinsured, there is nothing you can do to change that after an incident. The best way to do this is to have an annual review appointment with your insurance agent. This is the best way to avoid any surprises.

Keeping an up to date inventory list of your valuables is also important. This will assure that if an insurance claim is filed, you will have a record of everything that needs to be replaced.

Don’t Freak Out

People react to moments of stress in different ways. There is really no way to know how you will react to water flooding all over your house, until… there’s water flooding all over your house. If you do happen to find yourself in a water emergency, focus on the solution, not the problem.

Making sure all humans and animals are safe is most important and must be done first. Next see if you can get the water to stop. If you can, that is great, but just know that if you are not able to stop the water, everything is still going to be alright. It is not necessary for you to risk you safety. You just need to figure out what professional service provider can help you. Do you need a Plumber or a Roofer?
